We live in a world obsessed with big, showy, and Instagram-worthy. We want bigger platforms, larger online audiences, more social media followers, growing churches, and wider influence. Somewhere along the way, we have begun to believe that unless a contribution is visible, impressive, or large, it is not valuable. But how did we get here, when some of the greatest miracles in the Bible began with small, quiet, seemingly insignificant acts?
How and where have we lost sight of the power of small?
One of the greatest miracles in the Bible began with a little boy carrying an ordinary lunch: five loaves and two fish. It was hardly enough to satisfy his own hunger, let alone feed thousands. The miracle was found not in the size of the lunch, but in the boy’s willingness to place what he had into the hands of Jesus. I wonder if, as he offered it, he thought, how could this possibly feed all these hungry people? And I wonder if we often ask the same question.
- What difference will one encouraging phone call make?
- One meal delivered to a neighbour.
- One simple prayer whispered over a hurried friend.
- One quiet act of kindness.
- One brave act of forgiveness.
- One honest conversation. One warm smile.
One Hug.
Small acts rarely seem powerful in the moment. They can feel too ordinary to matter, especially when we look around and see people with thousands or millions of followers, impressive ministries, and visible influence. We may find ourselves asking, “How do they do that?” while quietly wondering if what we have to offer is enough.
But here is the miracle: God never asks us to bring more than we have. Our small offering, when surrendered to Him, can become something extraordinary. Throughout Scripture, miracles often happened through ordinary people who were simply willing to offer their small acts to a big and powerful God.
So today, do not compare yourself to the big and visible. Do not wait until you have more money, more time, more confidence, or more influence. Use what God has already placed in your hands. He knows what you are capable of because He created your personality, your capacity, and your heart.
Open your hands and your heart. Offer your lunch, your time, your kindness, and the quiet longings you carry. Surrender the results and leave the miracle to God.
