There is nothing Whimpy about GRACE

Posted: August 10, 2015

IMG_0802[1]There is nothing soft or whimpish about grace. It takes strength to smile with grace when someone offends us and makes us feel foolish or inadequate. It’s had to express grace when there is adversity and it feels like our whole world has been turned upside down. I find “grace” a hard word to understand. That is why today I am showcasing my friend Kathy Carlton Willis’s Bible Study GRIN WITH GRACE.

Kathy’s writing really hit a nerve in my heart. Her stories ring true and her wisdom can be trusted because she has lived this journey of grace. Kathy says, “While writing this series, I dealt with multiple health issues, surgeries, cancer and hospitalizations. At the same time, I moved to a different town, diving in to a new church ministry with my husband. Very little in life seemed familiar or comfortable. But God infused grace into each challenge and turned them into opportunities.” Now that’s the kind of Bible Study I want to sink my teeth into.

Kathy Carlton Willis created an outstanding masterpiece when she tackled this tough word in her new Bible Study called GRIN WITH GRACE.   Kathy’s personal life stories are laced with humour and honesty, but they carry a punch when she shines God’s words of grace into all the messy areas of our lives. This Bible Study is engaging, authentic and powerful. It’s a great tool for personal study but would be great for discussion in a larger group.

A quote from Chapter 2, Grow with Grace

When we attempt to grow into better Christians, we risk becoming stressed out from the pressure we place on ourselves and the pressures others place on us. But with grace it’s not about trying harder-its about striving less.”

Wow, “striving less” doesn’t that hit home? So we begin to grow grace in our lives when we are plugged into God’s word and align with His principles. Because grace prods us out of our comfort zone and places us securely on faith ground, which requires that we trust God’s word and in Him rather than our own abilities and strength.

More about Grin with Grace

Each chapter features five sections:

  • Grin with Grace contains real-life stories and observations. You’ll laugh at the humorous confessions and wacky insights, and relate to Kathy’s transparent honesty. Be inspired to see grace in your everyday life.
  • Grow with Grace features a grace word study. Kathy examines Bible verses and personalizes the meaning to your situation. Workbook prompts allows you to write down your thoughts as you read along.
  • Go with Grace offers life application. Pick one action step and make it work for you, or pick all of them—but do something to live out your grace-walk.
  • Give with Grace advances life application further, equipping you to become an instrument of God’s grace to others. You’ll be inspired to take what you’ve learned and give it away to others. This is when faith becomes ministry—when your focus expands to see the needs of others.
  •  Grin with Grace Challenge describes a grace-challenging scenario to give you an opportunity to exercise your newfound grace. It allows for speculation and judgment calls, to prepare you for the what-ifs that happen in life.

Praise for the Book:
Grin with Grace is perfect for women on the run, since there is no set daily reading schedule. The blend of humor, transparency, biblical concepts, word studies and opportunities to plug what I learned into my life gave me a fresh approach to doing my devotions or reading a Bible study.
